Help sign wave with us

From time to time, we take to the City sidewalks or other strategic locations to protest issues related to Ala Moana—the People’s Park.  We welcome volunteers to hold signs while waving at passing motorists.   Volunteers work in shifts or about an hour or so before taking a break. We have signs, but we appreciate volunteers coming up with new slogans and making signs.  People have made great signs using recycled paper and boxes.

Help with collecting petition signatures

In March 2019, in less than 3 weeks, we collected 1,700 signatures from people in various O`ahu locations on petitions that called for five items be taken out of the Plans for Ala Moana Regional Park: 1) Makai-Side shared use path; 2)  Dog Park(s) at the Kewalo Entrance to the Park; 3) Perpendicular parking on the Mauka side of Ala Moana Park Drive; 4) Indescriminate Sand replenishment with dredging sand from areas outside the surf breaks known as Courts, Concessions, and Baby Haleiwa; and 5) the One-acre “World Class” playground.  More signatures could be gathered if we had more volunteers to do so.

As new petitions are created, we will train volunteers and provide them with talking points.  Volunteers can go out by themselves or in pairs and feel comfortable approaching people and asking them to clearly write their information on the petition sheets—name, address, email or phone contact.

Help take pictures or video

Documenting activities at Ala Moana or at events and sending them to our website would be a great help to keeping the website current.  If you have skills in taking pictures or video, please volunteer to be a photo recorder.

Help provide research and/or links to useful articles

If you are someone who gets his/her information from various sources, you may come across articles you feel would be useful to be shared with our hui.   Sending links to us with a brief summary of the articles would be greatly appreciated.  Testimonies, letters to the Editor, or other written materials are all welcomed.

Volunteer to provide your special expertise or skill

If you have talents or expertise in wielding social media, formal analysis, petitioning, graphic design, communications, community engagement, writing, researching, event logistics, group and event organizing, documenting, booth setup, sign making, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc.,….. the list is endless.

It’s a kākou thing
Please let us know that you would like to kokua (volunteer) your special ideas or skills and you will be met with an abundance of appreciation and enthusiasm for pitching in with “Protecting The People’s Park” with advocacy and action”.
